Why is your father still in ministry? This is very typical of what is going on in the church world today. We often see that pastors and ministry workers are allowed to continue in ministry even after their abuse has been exposed. My father is just one of many such cases. My father's boss read my book and took no action against my father. When I made him aware that there was a criminal investigation on my father because of another victim, he chose not to put my father on administrative leave but rather waited for the criminal justice system to decide whether to charge him. He was adamant that my father was "innocent until proven guilty". In my opinion, this was totally irresponsible. Even the school system will put an employee on administrative leave as soon as allegations are brought forward, pending the results of an investigation. In my opinion, my father's boss was extremely naive about the whole issue of childhood sexual abuse. He did not seem to understand why victims do not report their abuse right away, the concept of shame, or even the basic dynamics of childhood sexual abuse. For an international organization whose employees do much of their work with children, this was particularly disturbing to me.
